Fall is a
great time to plant! Soil
temps are still warm, the
air is much cooler - roots
will have the perfect
condition to grow!
Plants planted now can get
established before the
onslaught of next year's
heat. Bonus! We had rain
and the soil can be tilled
easily. The Nursery is
still a colorful place
with so many fall blooming
plants, trees turning
colors, shrubs and ground
covers! There is an
abundance of flowers to
choose from for your
gardens. Plant your color
bowls now so they can fill
in before your family
arrives for the holidays.
You can have color well
into winter! Bareroot
Roses arrive in January
2009;
check out our
Rose list.
Check out
our
bareroot fruit tree
list and select some new
varieties (or old
favorites) for your yard.
Remember they arrive in January
2009.
Trees
are selected now for fall
color. Give your tired
fruit trees some TLC;
fertilize them with
10-10-10. Clean their old
leaves from around the
base and give them their
first spraying of the
season with copper oil to
suppress disease and
insects.
Bulbs - Bulbs are
easy to put in the ground
for color next spring. We
had rain and the soil can
be tilled easily. Come see
our fantastic bulb
selections!
Deer - Stay ahead
of the deer -- there are
many repellants available.
Fertilize all your tired
evergreens with 10-10-10.
More on
Deer.
Houseplants - Bring
your house plants back
inside and tuck them in
for the winter. Give them
a Bayer plant spike to
protect them from insects.
Be sure to flush them out
first, get rid of bugs and
snails!
Deer a problem? They can
become quite a nuisance
this time of year! Fight
back with products like
Liquid Fence! Apply it
directly to your new
plantings- it acts as a
barrier by affecting
deer's taste and smell
senses. Don't want to
spray your plants? Try Deer Scram! You sprinkle
it around your plants and
it protects for 1 month!
We also carry Plantskydd,
Shake away, garlic chips
and we even carry a deer
fencing that is
lightweight and easy to
install; and it lasts. It is 7
1/2 feet tall and you can
purchase it in any length.
We have had it around our
demo garden for 5 years! By
planning ahead, you can have
flower interest even through
the winter! Come by and
see our demo garden, lots
of interest and many
plants still blooming.

We have
4 different blends
of seed for lawns in our area,
Shade Blend, no Mow (for
a natural meadow look
requiring low water),
Bolero Plus, and 90-10. We
recommend using Bolero
fertilizer which is
formulated by the the sod
company for our part of
the country using special
micro nutrients to ensure
a healthy lawn.
They match most sod blends
too. Spring and fall are good
times to sow new lawns, or
repair patches in your lawn.
We have several soil
additives for every
scenario in your garden.

See our wonderful assortment
of annuals, perennials,
ground covers, and
evergreen shrubs. We keep
our plants in top
condition, well-watered
and healthy, ready for
your garden. Fall is
perfect planting time.

Time for cole crops!
Plant lettuce, spinach and
garlic and be
sure
to get your onion beds
ready. They love cooler
weather, and grow well in
any soil that is
well-drained and moisture
retentive. You can improve
both heavy clay soils and
lighter sandy soils by
adding organic matter.
Planting garlic is a fun
thing for kids to do, make
it a family event!
Garlic is
grown from the individual
cloves. Each clove will
produce one plant with a
single bulb - which may in
turn contain up to twenty
cloves. Growing garlic is
therefore self-sustaining.

There are also many wonderful
garden artifacts to add to
your gardens, fun and
whimsical, elegant or
functional. Maybe
something interesting to
see in a winter garden
when all is sleeping,
waiting for spring. Come out to
the Garden Center soon and
see what we have to offer!
