Floribundas
are versatile; an individual shrub will fit easily into almost any sunny
border planting. However, they are perhaps most striking in mass
plantings. Imagine colors of mango orange, peach pink & ripe apricot that
visually bounce off glossy green leaves. This is the floribunda 'Easy Does
It!' Floribundas
have many small flowers in clusters, and are generally low-growing. They
were produced from a cross between a
hybrid tea and a
polyantha sometime in the 1920's.
These bushy shrubs have the large, showy blossoms of the hybrid teas, but
bloom more freely, setting clusters of three to fifteen blossoms rather
than a single bloom on a stem. The result is a rose that flowers continuously throughout the season,
producing either double, like Geisha, or hybrid tea-like (high-centered)
flowers similar to Trumpeter. They tend to lack strong fragrance, though
it may be detected on some plants in the morning hours. They are generally
low-growing (3' to5'). Floribundas are often referred to as
Cluster-Flowered roses. Larger Floribundas are classified as Grandifloras.
Disease resistant varieties are Cherish, Europeana, French Lace, Gene
Boerner, Iceberg, and Sunsprite.
